Not Every Book I Read Is an ARC
(And That’s the Point, I will make here.)
Let me normalize something real quick: not all book reviews need to come from ARCs.
In fact, some of the best, most honest reviews come from books I pick up purely because I wanted to read them, to form my own opinion on them and then try to represent or help out authors, not because I had a deadline, an approval, or an obligation attached.
Why I Review Non-ARC Books:
Reading outside of ARCs keeps my love for books, alive and kicking.
These are the books I rely on my AuDHD intuition.
The ones I read on a whim at 2am or finally read after they’ve been sitting on in my TBR.
I plan to revist and review my favorites in the coming months that might have been out for years, but they live rent-free in my head and I want them to be in yours too.
My AuDHD chooses books based purely on vibes, mood, chaos or pure curiousity.
No pressure. No expectations. Just reading.
And honestly? It is the best thing for my mental health.
The Difference You MightNotice b/w ARC reviews and Non-ARC Book Reviews:
When I review non-ARC reads, you’re getting:
- Unfiltered opinions (no subconscious pressure to be “nice”)
- More chaotic, honest reactions (in the best way)
- Deeper emotional takes because I wasn’t rushing to meet a deadline
- Zero obligation energy—if I DNF, I DNF
These reviews are less polished and more me.
No Deadlines, Just Vibes
One of the biggest differences? No ticking clock.
Thus if you see 6 ARC reviews in a row on this blog, its because I have a deadline and want to make sure I make it.
With Non-ARC reviews however I can:
- Take my time reading or re-reading
- Sit with the story before reviewing
- Decide if I even want to review it, if I want to full breakdown or provide a shorter review format
Because not every book needs a full breakdown—and that’s okay.
For My Fellow Neurospicy Readers
If you’re anything like me, mood reading is non-negotiable.
Non-ARC reads let me:
- Follow hyperfixations without guilt
- Drop books without feeling like I failed
- Avoid burnout from constant review commitments
It’s how I keep reading fun instead of turning it into unpaid labor.
Do These Reviews Matter Less? Absolutely Not.
If anything, they matter more.
These are the books I chose with zero outside influence—which means:
- If I love it, I really love it
- If I hate it, you’ll know
- If it hits emotionally, it’s sticking with me for a reason
There’s no algorithm, no obligation—just genuine reader experience.
Final Thoughts
ARCs are great. I love them. They’re part of what I am building within the industry.
But the heart of reading?
It’s still the random, impulsive, “this looked good so I read it” books.
So expect a mix here: ARC reviews and chaotic, mood-driven, non-ARC reads that I just couldn’t shut up about.
Because at the end of the day, I’m not just a reviewer, I’m a reader first and foremost.
