My Thoughts
Sheridan Anne delivers exactly what the title insinuates which is in my opinion complete chaos, outrageous situations, criminal shenanigans and a heroine who somehow manages to make every bad situation even worse. Oops I’m Wanted Again blended dark humor with dark romance and action in a way that kept the story moving at a rapid pace and made it impossible for me to put down.
This book felt like a wild ride from beginning to end. The humor is perfect, the situations are ridiculous in the best possible way, and the romance develops amidst a constant stream of trouble and has a touch of suspense & thrill attached to the buildup. If you’re looking for a realistic crime story, this is not it, but if you want something entertaining, fast-paced, and packed with personality, and excellent spice content then this delivered all that for me and it will for you.
One of the biggest strengths of this book is its willingness to embrace the absurd. Let’s realistic this would never happen in the real world and that is exactly it is one of the best dark romantic comedy’s I have read. Rather than trying to be a serious dark romance, it leans into the comedy and creates a reading experience that feels unique within the genre.
What Worked for Me:
- The Chaotic Energy
The story never slows down. It is fast, it kept me hooked into the story. I read this in 3 hours on a plane to London and during that time, I couldn’t tell you if the flight was smooth or turbulent, if the fight attndants asked me questions or if anyone spoke to me. Every time it seems like the characters might catch a break, another problem appears and it is absurdly hilarious
- The Humor
Dark humor can be difficult to balance for many authors, but Sheridan Anne manages to create genuinely funny moments even during dangerous situations. I found myself laughing at several of the characters’ decisions simply because they were so outrageous. This was perfect parallel to my dark witty humor.
- The Character Personalities
The characters felt larger than life. FMC was badass, indepent, witty, chaotic and genuinely authentic to the crazy absurd plot. MMC was anti-hero grump but extremely protective…eventually. Their interactions were entertaining, and the chemistry between the leads helped anchor the more chaotic plot elements.
- Fast-Paced Storytelling
This is the kind of book that’s easy to binge-read. Chapters move quickly, and there’s always something happening to keep readers invested.
- Suspension of Disbelief Is Required
Some plot developments require readers to fully embrace the chaos and avoid overanalyzing the logistics. Readers looking for realism may struggle with certain events. I certainly did not find that to be an issue at all.
What Didn’t Work for Me:
- Over the Top Situations
While the absurdity was part of the fun for me, some readers may find certain scenarios a little too exaggerated or unbelievable. For me it did not detract from the book and I still binge-read this book. It did not affect my rating.
- Limited Downtime
Because the story moves so quickly, there aren’t many quiet moments for reflection. Readers who enjoy slower character driven development may wish for a bit more breathing room.
Things to Consider Before Reading:
- This is a dark rom-com, not a traditional dark romance. It has humor with darkness.
- Humor is a major focus of the story.
- The characters make questionable decisions, often repeatedly.
- Realism takes a backseat to entertainment.
- Expect criminal chaos, danger, and ridiculous situations.
- The story is intentionally exaggerated and playful despite darker themes.
Neurodivergent Thoughts
As a neurodivergent reader, one thing I appreciated was the book’s constant momentum. The fast pacing and frequent plot developments helped keep my attention engaged and minimized the risk of my mind wandering during slower sections. I struggle with pacing issues in most of my reads and this book did not cause any issues at all. My focus and attention were top-notch during this read.
The dark humor worked particularly well because it broke up tense moments and created a reading experience that felt stimulating rather than emotionally draining. Humor is a positive coping mechanism and is more realistic to real life darkness/trauma/angst than some of the more serious dark romance reads. My point being that reading humor in these situations is a sign of mature coping mechanisms.
That said, readers who become overwhelmed by highly chaotic narratives may find the nonstop action a bit overstimulating and absurd. This is a “hold on and enjoy the ride” type of story.
Final Thoughts
Oops I’m Wanted Again: A Dark Prison Break Rom Com is a wildly entertaining blend of romance, crime, action, and humor. Sheridan Anne fully embraces the absurdity of the plot and delivers a story packed with chaos, danger, chemistry, and laugh-out-loud moments. She is quickly becoming one of my absolute favorite to read authors…stay tuned for more reviews.
If you enjoy morally gray characters, ridiculous situations, and romances that don’t take themselves too seriously, this book is worth picking up. It won’t be for readers seeking realism or a deeply emotional character study, but for those looking for an entertaining escape filled with criminal chaos and dark humor, it’s a lot of fun.
Overall Rating: 4.5/5 ★
Would I Recommend It? Yes, especially for readers who love absurd dark romantic comedy’s set in the background of prison break and high spice content.
