My Thoughts

The Legacy serves as an extended farewell to the beloved Off-Campus crew, revisiting Garrett and Hannah, Logan and Grace, Dean and Allie, and Tucker and Sabrina years after their original stories ended. Rather than focusing on one central romance, the novel acts as a collection of interconnected novellas that explore where each couple is now, the challenges they face, and how they continue to grow together and individually beyond their college hockey days.

This isn’t a traditional romance with a new couple falling in love. Instead, it’s a love letter to longtime readers who have spent years invested in these characters and wanted one last chance to see them thrive.

The FMCs

One of the unique aspects of The Legacy is that there isn’t a single female main character. It made for a different read for me than the last four books. I had not read this book before as if I was quite honest, I didn’t know it existed prior to this journey of re-reads. What it does instead, it allows readers to reconnect with four women whose journeys began throughout the Off-Campus series. I enjoyed re-connecting with these females, it was like having a coffee and catching up with that old friend you haven’t seen in years. It was a warm pleasant feeling.

Update on Hannah Wells:

Hannah remains grounded, intelligent, and emotionally mature. Her relationship with Garrett continues to showcase the communication and mutual respect that made them fan favorites in The Deal. She balances ambition with vulnerability and feels like a natural continuation of the character readers originally fell in love with.

Update on Grace Ivers:

Grace still brings warmth and heart to every scene. Her relationship with Logan has matured significantly, but she retains the emotional intelligence and patience that helped Logan grow throughout his original story.

Update on Allie Hayes:

Allie continues to be independent, thoughtful, and refreshingly realistic. Watching her navigate adult life and future planning felt relatable and believable, especially as she and Dean confront bigger life decisions. They are still spicy but they have matured. I enjoyed seeing who she became with that commitment in her life.

Update on Sabrina James:

Sabrina remains fiercely ambitious and determined. Her drive, confidence, and unwillingness to settle for less continue to define her character, while motherhood and adulthood add additional depth to her journey. She remains my favorite FMC, I won’t lie. I was super proud to read where she was at and how the relationship between her and Tucker was functioning.

The MMCs

Update on Garrett Graham:

Garrett is still the gold standard book boyfriend. He was still confident without being too arrogant, protective without being overly controlling or manipulative, and endlessly devoted to Hannah, he remains one of the strongest romantic heroes in sports romance in my opinion. I believe that his character will be beloved no matter what the century or the generation reading him.

Update on John Logan:

Logan’s growth arc may be one of the most satisfying in the entire series for a lot of reader. Overall, it wasn’t my favorite growth arc, as I did prefer Dean’s more.  However, I enjoyed reading that the original reckless college athlete I met in The Mistake years ago has evolved into a mature, dependable partner while still maintaining the humor and charm that define him.

Update on Dean Di Laurentis:

Dean remains exactly who readers expect him to be which is charismatic, entertaining, and hilarious. Underneath the confidence and humor, however, his storyline explores some of the deeper fears surrounding adulthood and commitment. I swear in this text he was even more evolved, mature and grown up than he was his and Allie’s book. I really loved that.

Update on Tucker:

Tucker was still steady, dependable and his green flag nature continues to wave proudly. He remains the ultimate golden retriever main male character in the off-campus series. I tentatively say he is best golden retriever MMC in the entire briar universe, but I need I re-read or read the other novels first, so stay tuned. He was still providing that calm emotional center among the group and to me he remains one of the most underrated heroes in the Off-Campus universe.

What Worked for Me:

  • Checking in with My Favorite Characters Again

The biggest strength of The Legacy is undoubtedly the nostalgia factor. Returning to characters that I have loved for years felt like catching up with old friends.

  • Realistic After College Relationship Evolution

I appreciated that Elle Kennedy didn’t portray these couples as magically perfect once their original books ended. They still experienced challenges, disagreements, insecurities, and major life decisions. Their happily-ever-afters feel earned rather than effortless.

  • Continued Strong Found Family Vibes

These friendships remain one of the strongest aspects of the Off-Campus universe. The banter, loyalty, and deep connections between the characters continue to make this world feel vibrant and alive. I love the trope “Found Family” and in my opinion this is one of the best versions of it out there.

  • Closure

As a longtime series fan, I enjoyed receiving updates and emotional closure for each couple. It felt like a proper goodbye rather than an abrupt ending.

What Didn’t Work for Me:

  • Less Romantic Tension & Spice

Because these couples are already established, readers shouldn’t expect the same level of romantic tension, angst, or anticipation found in the original books. In addition, the overall spice as a result was minimal and not as extensive as the past off-campus books.

  • Feels More Like Bonus Content

This reads more like an extended epilogue collection than a standalone novel. New readers would likely miss much of the emotional significance without reading the previous books first.

Spice Rating: 🌶️2.5/5

The spice in The Legacy is solidly moderate and consistent with the overall Off-Campus series tone.

Readers can expect:

  • Open-door intimacy
  • Established relationship chemistry
  • Emotional intimacy paired with physical connection
  • Romantic and playful scenes
  • Moderate steam level

The focus is less on building sexual tension and more on showcasing how intimacy evolves in long-term relationships. The  intimate scenes overall served the emotional development of the couples rather than driving the plot.

Things to Consider Before Reading

  • This should absolutely be read after the main Off-Campus series. If at all.
  • Readers seeking a brand-new romance may be disappointed. It is not that.
  • The enjoyment factor heavily depends on your attachment to the original characters.
  • The book focuses on relationship maintenance rather than relationship formation.
  • It functions primarily as a farewell and celebration of the series.

Final Thoughts

The Legacy isn’t trying to reinvent the Off-Campus series and honestly, it doesn’t need to.

Instead, it offers something many romance readers secretly crave, which is proof that happily-ever-afters continue long after the final page. Through weddings, career changes, family planning, and everyday relationship challenges, Elle Kennedy gives readers one final opportunity to spend time with the characters who helped make Off-Campus one of the most beloved hockey romance series of the last decade.

If you’re an Off-Campus fan, this book feels less like reading a sequel and more like attending a reunion with old friends.
